With the unexpected snow overnight last night I thought it was a great time to finally getting around to sharing these paper tube bird feeders Georgia made with me last year!

We’ve made a few different types of bird feeders before but these ones have been the most successful not sure if it’s because the peanut butter (yum!).

You will need:

  • Paper tubes
  • Bird seed
  • Peanut butter
  • String
  • Scissors

Firstly Georgia covered the paper tube in the peanut butter using the back of a spoon. This bit does get messy so a pack of wipes to hand is useful to stop peanut butter fingers touching everything!

Once the tube was covered then then rolled in the plate of bird seed

It took a couple of attempts to make sure it was completely covered in the bird seed but once done we set it to one side so we could make a few more.

We made 3 in total and looped some string through them before tying in a knot and taking them outside to decide where to hang them.

We then sat back and waited for the birds which luckily we get a lot of visiting our garden. It was great fun to watch them peck off the seeds and I’m surprised how long these lasted despite the rain over the new few days.

A few years ago we also tried another technique of making bird feeders using cheerios and another using a plastic bottle which you can find here.
