Yesterday afternoon we made these really simple paper plate chick for Easter. I love crafts that are easy and simple enough that the Little Tots can do themselves once everything has been prepared and set out for them.
You will need:
- Paper plates
- Yellow tissue paper
- Yellow paint and paint brushes
- Googley eyes
- Orange pipe cleaners
- Orange card / foam / paper
- Glue and glue sticks
The Little Tots helped me to tear up lots of strips of tissue paper into smaller pieces and scrunch them up . I cut some orange card into a diamond shape for the beak and arranged the pipe cleaners to look like bird feet and set out the rest of the materials ready for them.
Firstly they squirted a big blob of yellow paint onto their plates and spread it round with the paintbrushes.
I knew they would be to impatient to wait for them to dry before adding on tissue paper so I let them get straight on with it. This resulted in a lovely yellow gloopy mess!
Once satisfied they had covered the plates they glued on googley eyes and an orange beak.
The legs took a bit longer to secure and didn’t work with glue so in the end we used sticky tape and stuck them on the back (watch out for the sharp bits of the pipe cleaners).
They took overnight to dry but this morning they have been flying around the playroom with them using them in their imaginative play and story telling.
