This afternoon we have been testing out some of the wonderfully simple animal crafts from the new 50 Animal Crafts for Little Kids book by the brilliant Georgina Bomer at Craftulate. I’m always on the look out for crafts that my Little Tots can actually do themselves with very little input from myself and this book is full of them, 50  in fact.

I’ve had a 2 and 4 year old with me this afternoon who always enjoy crafting so firstly we sat together and had a look at some of the animals they wanted to make from the eBook on the iPad. The book is well laid out and split into different categories of animals which is great if you are covering a particular topic with children or they have a specific animal they are interested in.

The girls spent ages choosing, looking at every photo in turn, and in the end went for the Bottle Cap Birds Craft and the Craft Stick Caterpillars.

After they choose I gathered the materials they needed and left them to it. They had already seen the picture of each craft so both got busy straight away creating them.  Apart from the cutting out of the beaks the Little Tots were able to put these together with no input from me and they loved the results.

The birds are proudly displayed on our art board and the caterpillars have joined the farm animals and have been played with non-stop this afternoon in their imaginative play.

All these crafts contain things you probably already have in your craft box such as paper plates, pom poms and googley eyes meaning you don’t have to plan ahead for these crafts (which I actually hadn’t).

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone who enjoys crafting with their little one but feels totally overwhelmed by all those beautiful images on Pintrest….because lets face it they never turn out like that! Even those of you that don’t consider yourself in the least bit artistic can enjoy these crafts for 2 – 5 year olds.
